Please oh please paint the old house, use what is left of it to embrace art; plants and sculpture but don't leave it to fall to ruin just because it doesn't make money. Show some respect to the history of this once great estate.

I walked through this estate as a child and remember the contrast between the structured, organised gardens that Capability Brown had constructed to frame the old house and the natural evolution to the wild nature of the woodlands surrounding the lake as a contrast. What made it so beautiful was this contrast. The understanding of how architecture and nature evolve from the organised and structured to the rugged beauty of nature it what defines excellence in horticulture. What horrified me today was the literal drowning of the Italian gardens in wild grasses that humiliated the principles of Italian architecture. In the end, the endless grasses made the whole effect feel like an enormous weed garden. Why oh why can't there be more emphasis on leaf and foliage architecture that lasts and evolves through the seasons instead of the quick-fix madness of grasses?

One positive part was the wonderful wildflower collection in the woods and the fascinating sculptures. Heavenly.

A lovely set of gardens well worth the current entry fee. There is a huge lake, children’s play area, mini train and boat rides, several trails and statues, and plenty of food outlets just outside the gardens. A really nice day out regardless of the season in which you visit.

Very nice little commercial village. Beautiful (charged) gardens. There's also a fantastic italian restaurant that runs until fairly late at night.
